WHO ARE YOU?
[ LIKES ]
+ Quiddtich
+ Dogs
+ Rain
+ being outside and most outdoor activities
+ Tea
+ Quiet
+ Winter
+ Horses
+ Defense Against the Dark Arts
+ Cooking
[ DISLIKES ]
+ Talking about how he’s feeling
+ People who mess with his friends – Only he can be a dick to them. No matter how obnoxious he may be, by the end of the day he trusts them. And they know he’s a close friend, even when he is being an asshole.
+ Abuse
+ Weakness
+ Walking in on a certain pair of friends while they’re in the midst of getting all hot and heavy.
+ Pushy individuals
+ Flirting (he just has no interest in anyone or any kind of romance at the moment, so just don’t even try)
+Coffee
+ Cigarettes
[ STRENGTHS ]
+ Athletic – He works out often, usually by hiking or jogging. Not to mention he’s been playing Quidditch for years, even if originally to help his friends practice. Now that he’s actually gone through with joining the team, he’s only going to be playing it more often.
+ Loyal – Despite how much of an asshole he may be, no one should ever question his loyalty his friends. He will always stand firmly beside them, supporting them, even sometimes saying what needs to be said in order to help snap one out of a rut.
+ Daring – He was sorted into Gryffindor, so is it really so difficult to believe that he’s more courageous and daring than he lets on. Just listen to some of the things that come out of his mouth, that should be enough to show how daring he can be.
+ Intelligent – Despite his lack of confidence which causes him to perform poorly in classes, Luke is far from being stupid. He’s a rather intelligent individual, it’s just he needs motivation in order to perform well. Or help from someone who’s willing to reach out and push him to do his best. If he were to put in more effort, and believe in himself more, then he’d have no problem maintaining high marks in most of his classes.
[ WEAKNESSES ]
+ Emotionally Distant – Ugh emotions… Can he just rather not talk about them. Luke would rather remain closed off and not think about whatever may be bothering him, no matter how necessary it may be. He struggles to open up to others, or even get too close anyone else who he isn’t already close to.
+ Sarcastic asshole – Oh this boy is good at tossing around the sarcasm, and teasing comments. He can be a dick and get under people’s skin easily, but it can also be his way of showing affection. Depending on who you are, the meaner he is may just be a sign that he values your friendship. Especially if he knows it will help snap a friend out of a rut. Doesn’t always mean it’s always welcome, especially when it’s more impulsive than anything.
+ Impulsive – He has a habit of doing things without thinking, whether by saying something he probably shouldn’t, or putting his body and health at risk.
+ Lacks confidence – Self-explanatory. Despite his intelligence, or skills on the pitch, he never feels like he’s good enough. He may not have tried out for Quidditch at all, if it wasn’t for having friends who pushed him into it.
[ DEMENTOR ] His father throwing him through the window during one of his many angry outburst.
[ MIRROR OF ERISED ] He would see himself standing tall and feeling confident in his abilities. Gryffindor would win the house cup, and he’d be standing proud next to his friends and teammates. No longer would he lack confidence, but instead finding joy in knowing that he’s not worthless or weak.
[ AMORTENTIA ] jasmine, dog fur, a forest during a heavy storm
[ BOGGART ] That his parents might be right. That no matter what he may do, he will always be worthless and weak. That he’s someone doomed to always fail and continue to disappoint everyone and anyone who tries to have any hope for him.
[ VERITASERUM ]
That he grew up in an abusive home, with both of his parents being equally guilty. His mother on a more psychological level, where as his father was the physical one. It’s difficult to say which was worst, but sometimes Luke believes his mother was the cruelest between the two of them.
[ PATRONUS] Timber wolf

[ PERSONALITY ]
To say Luke is rough around the edges would be an accurate statement. He is someone who is very closed off, preferring not to let people get too close to him. Opening up and talking is very difficult, and something he avoids doing at all cost. Even to those who he does choose to open up to, it leaves a bad taste to his mouth. He doesn’t like it one bit, hates it even. It’s easier to act like an asshole, and push other way rather than opening up and discussing things he’d rather keep buried deep down inside. As a consequence, to this, he has become rather vulnerable. Vulnerable to the point where he is easily affected by his emotions, sometimes losing control without realizing it. He’s a rather fragile being emotionally, prone to having emotional breakdowns whenever things seem to be going badly in his life. When feeling afraid, instead of facing matters head on, Luke often chooses to hide. To avoid facing his problems for as long as possible, sometimes even going as far as to avoid everyone around him. Only his friends may successfully approach him, reach out to help him, as it is only those who he fully trusts whose company he won’t immediately turn down.
When around his friends, he begins to open up a little more. Luke isn’t one to take friendship lightly. Once he decides he trusts someone, then you better believe that he’ll do anything for them. True he can still be a bit of a jerk, especially around those who are fun to tease, but he never outright tries to be an asshole. It’s just part of his nature, and a lot of his more sarcastic and teasing behavior comes as a form of affection towards those he cares about. Sometimes the meaner he is, might just be a sign that he really does care about someone. That he doesn’t want to see one of his friends drag themselves down, not to mention someone has to be the one to say what has to be said. And he can do that. Luke often knows exactly the right thing to say to snap a friend out of a rut, and bring them into better spirits. If he has to be an asshole, then so be it. To those who try to mess with his friends for no reason, Luke won’t hesitate for a second to stand up for them. As much as he may mess with @gabs, and occasionally @cooper, he knows they’re still friends. Which in his mind gives him more liberties to get away with some things, especially when he knows his lion pals know he’s just being Luke. That him being a jerk is just another sign of showing affection, at least around them.

[ HISTORY ]
It was November 17, 2004 when Lukas Grant Vanetti entered into the world, and took his first breath of air. Much to his parent’s dismay, he wasn’t perfectly healthy. His body was frail at first, with the young baby Luke having complications in finding a steady rhythm of breathing. The healers assured the Vanetti parents that it wasn’t anything severe, but that they wanted Lucas to remain in the hospital for a few extra days. Most parents would have accepted the terms with no hesitation, with a desire to see their son taken care of and brought to full health. However, he had the misfortune of having Arturo and Keira Vanetti as parents. Even the smallest sign of weakness was frowned upon, so poor baby Luke was met with cold sneers whenever his health was brought up. His parents did agree to have him remain, however, stating that he had better return to them in perfect health. If not well, both mother and father practically told the staff not to bother further if things didn’t improve after a week. Weakness wasn’t accepted in the Vanetti household, not even a new born could get away with even the smallest signs of being weak.
Luckily, or unluckily depending on how you look at it, the healers managed to find and heal Lucas to where he was fully recovered from his ailments. On the plus side, he was in decent health which was excellent news. In truth, everything about it should have been celebrated. The downside was that he would have to be raised by his oh so loving parents. The cruel individuals who were ready to abandon him, if there had been no way to heal the problems that had plagued him temporarily.
Okay to be fair, things weren’t so terrible right away. When they’d first learned that their son had been healed, Keira and Arturo were relieved. Despite the initial reaction to toss him aside if he was deemed too weak, the Vanetti’s had wanted a child to raise. To raise someone to meet their high expectations, and to follow the family legacy. So too little surprise, the early years of Lucas’ like weren’t too horrible. When they were home, his parents tried to do what they could to look after their son. Both had careers that kept them quite busy. Arturo worked as a curse breaker, and often found himself traveling to wherever he was needed. It was common for several weeks to pass at a time where Luke would never see his dad. Keira on the other hand kept herself busy trying to manage working as an investigative reporter for the Daily Prophet. Being a workaholic, his mother would do whatever possible to unveil a story, and locking herself away until it was ready to be published.
When they were home, each tried as much as possible to be parents. His mother was the worst at it, as it didn’t take long until she became rather neglectful. But his father, for the first few years, Arturo was determined to try to be a father. He wanted a son to carry on his legacy, someone who could make him proud. His father began to look forward to the days when he might begin to teach Luke of their family history, and general knowledge of magic to tie him over before attending Hogwarts. The thing is between work and traveling, it became more and more difficult to be a father. Arturo found himself spending less and less time with Lucas while he was young and impressionable, and missed all opportunities to mold the boy into someone who might become something to his liking. So at some point he sort of just stopped caring, and became a neglectful parent alongside Keira. Lucas kept in the care of a nanny for most of the day, with his parents barely doing anything to look after him. It wasn’t the best home environment in the world, but at least there was some effort to take care of him. And it could have been much, much worst.
And worse it became. Lucas was seven when his father stormed into the house one day, anger oozing off the man like liquid hot magma. That was the day his father was let go from his job, replaced by a younger, and fitter individual. Confused as to what was going on, Luke watched in silence as his father tore apart the house, destroying whatever fragile object he could get his hands on. Fear took hold of the young boy, and without think he ran to hide inside a nearby closet. There he watched in silence as his father’s rampage continued, hoping to escape the man’s path of destruction. An hour passed before things began to quiet down for a bit, and believing it was a sign that it was safe to come out Luke decided to push the door open. As he began to sneak out – wanting to slowly maneuver himself into his room without being noticed – he was unaware of the footsteps storming back into the main room. His father approached behind, and before he knew it he was being yelled at for reasons he had no idea why. He hadn’t done anything. Frozen in place, Lucas stared up at his dad in utter terror. All he could do was listen as he was called a disappoint, weak, and so many other things that he was realizing both his parents must have thought about him in secret. It explained so much. Gritting his teeth, Luke shouted back calling Arturo out for never being there, for never being a father when he needed one.
And oh the fury in his father’s eyes from that alone was enough to make Lucas want to run back into the closet. He tried, his hands fumbled with the door knob while his father approached him from behind. As he was about to open it, a strong hand was tugging at the back of his shirt, pulling him away from the safety of the closet. The fabric wrapped around his neck, choking him, as he struggled to find some way to escape. His father pulled him over, and before he knew it he felt a strong slap across his face. It was the first time the man had ever hit him. There was no time to comprehend what had happened, though. A split second later Luke was being pushed against the wall, into the very closet he had sought to hide. With wide, fearful eyes, Lucas looked up to meet his father’s gaze; watching as the towering man slammed the door in his face before locking it in place. For the rest of the night he was forced to spend the rest of the night, curled up in a ball in the cramped closet. Just like that his hiding spot had become a prison.
As the years passed by, things only worsened over time. His father became more abusive, with Luke often finding sanctuary in his room more often than not. He no longer made an attempt to stand up for himself, instead choosing to hide or huddle inside the closet in order to avoid the man’s wrath. The worst of the incidents would be when his father threw him outside the window when he was ten, a shard of glass digging deep into his cheek. The whole time his mother never made an attempt to stop his father, instead she merely watched with cold eyes. Whatever Arturo did was meant to strengthen him, she’d always say. That he was still too weak, and not someone worthy of living up to the standards they expected of him. In her own way she was just as abusive, only in a more psychological manner. Luke was constantly subjected to hearing how he wasn’t good enough, how he was only a constant disappointment to his parents. Keira’s words stabbed at him mentally, weakening his confidence, making him believe that that he would forever be weak. That he wasn’t good enough. Whereas his father reminded him of just how incapable he was of fighting back daily, in a more physical manner.
By the time he turned eleven, Lucas had begun searching desperately for any reason to not be in his house. To spend time away from his parents; he wanted to be somewhere where he wouldn’t be looked down upon. An escape opportunity made it’s way to him in the form of a letter, and as he read it some mild relief drifted over him. He’d been invited to attend Hogwarts. As much as he wanted to feel excited, he dreaded showing it to his parents. But he did. If he was allowed to attend, then it would take him away from the house for a large part of the year. Both his parents agreed that he would go to the school, while both warning him to not disappoint him. To try not to be useless, and look pathetic around the other students. It was important for him to do his best, or else he would be severely punished when he returned for the summer.
The journey was relatively peaceful, with Luke choosing to stick mostly to himself on the Hogwarts Express. At the sorting ceremony, he stood in line with his fellow first years, watching as everyone went up one by one to be sorted. Being a Vanetti only seemed to grow more convenient, as he ended up being among the last students to be sorted. But his time came. At first the sorting hat didn’t seem to know where to put him. It deliberated for a few seconds, trying to decide upon Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, or maybe even Slytherin. In truth, Luke was sure which he would prefer. Besides it wasn’t like he was looking forward to meeting new people, and spending too much time socializing with his new housemates. Though Gryffindor appealed to him more. The idea of being brave and standing up for what he believed in wasn’t too horrible. And he wanted to feel brave. The hat seemed to sense his decision, as before he knew it he heard it shouting out Gryffindor.
Luke didn’t make too much of an effort to get out and socialize during his first year at Hogwarts, although that didn’t stop him from meeting new people. One of which was his roommate @cooper, who seemed determined to want to be his friend. Despite being annoyed by the boy’s enthusiasm and friendliness, he never made too much of an effort push him away. Instead he just kind of did nothing, allowing Cooper to hang around him whenever the other boy wanted. Later on her also met @gabs, another fellow Gryffindor. While he didn’t trust her, he found himself spending more time around her. In fact, Cooper and Gabby quickly became the two people who he seemed to be drawn to more than anyone else. Whether that was because of Cooper, or his own mind telling him that maybe he’d found friends, he wasn’t sure.
Second year was more or less the same, with him struggling through classes and still hanging around Cooper and Gabby on occasion. As difficult as it was for him to open up, and accept that maybe he was making friends, Luke found himself enjoying their company more and more. If only a little. He continued to remain cautious of getting too close; he didn’t want to open up and decide to trust anyone yet.
That changed during his third year, after he received a notice that his father had been sent to Azkaban. Arrested for murdering not only his former boss, but the man’s entire family as well. And naturally Hogwarts wasn’t the best place to be when the news started spreading. It didn’t take long for other students to hear, with some going so far to try to make his life hell. No longer did he seem to be Lucas Vanetti, instead he was the son of a murderer. Some people went so far to whisper nasty insults behind him back, and questioning how long it would take before he snapped. The worst of students went so far as to push him around, and attempt to lure him into fight after fight. His life became hell. In truth there were a few times where he was tempted, where he really wanted to punch someone’s face in. He almost did actually. If it wasn’t for the a professor passing by, then he would have given in.
Despite the hell he received on a daily basis, he realized that at least two people had his back. @gabs helped to stand up for him during one of the moments where he was being tormented, with @cooper also proving to be a loyal friend. Luke wasn’t alone. He had friends. People who he might be able to call his best friends, and just like that he decided to trust them.
After that he no longer questioned the loyalty of his friends, and gradually allowed himself to get closer to them. He spent the next years at Hogwarts hanging with Cooper and Gabby whenever they wanted to; doing everything from studying and homework to practicing Quidditch. His confidence remained low, but having people to work with encouraged him to do his best. Not to mention he enjoyed being around them. Whether he was teasing them, getting into small fights with Gabby, or just relaxing by the lake, he found himself enjoying his time at the school more and more. Knowing that he wasn’t alone helped.
The summer months when he was home became hell. After his father’s arrest, his mother took a darker turn. Her neglect only increased, and she became prone to frequent outburst. Luke felt more tormented by ever, constantly being told how he was a disgrace in his mother’s eyes. How he’d never be anything like his father? Which he slowly began to realize he didn’t want to be. He didn’t even want to spend time in the house if he could help it, and if the opportunity came up he wouldn’t hesitate to head to a friend’s house. Usually Cooper’s house. A place where he felt welcome, and never felt afraid of messing up. Or being yelled at for being a weak failure. A disappointment.
Fifth year he watched as Cooper and Gabby finally got together, and despite his hesitance towards them actually dating, he was one of the first to congratulate them. Well it was more like commenting how it was about time. After suffering so long watching puppy dog eyes being cast in different directions, Luke was almost relieved that something had finally happened. Most importantly he supported them. What he didn’t support was having his two best friends using his room to get up to certain activities. That he could do without.
His sixth year started out the same as almost every other, except he was relieved to have passed most of his O.W.L.S over the summer. At least those for the subjects that he had put in the most work in, even going so far to seek out help when it was required. Early on in the year he allowed himself to be convinced to try out for the Quidditch team, and managed to make the team. However, feeling unconfident in his own abilities, Luke turned down a main position on the team. Instead he opted to play as a reserve. That way he’d be able to continue practicing each position, while not feeling the pressure that came from being a part of the main roster. He debated signing up to join the Dueling Club, but something stopped him. Even with his two best friends in the club, he couldn’t shake a steady distrust in other students around him. And being a part of the Quidditch team seemed more worth it, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to have to deal with two different groups of people all the time.
Still there’s no telling what the future holds. Maybe he’ll eventually work up the initiative to just stand up and take action. At least he has his buddies by his side, not to mention that they’d more likely be lost without him.
Luckily, or unluckily depending on how you look at it, the healers managed to find and heal Lucas to where he was fully recovered from his ailments. On the plus side, he was in decent health which was excellent news. In truth, everything about it should have been celebrated.
